There are approximately 133 airports in Italy, including the two major international hubs of Malpensa International near Milan and Leonardo Da Vinci International near Rome (also called Fiumicino). All major Italian cities have airports offering frequent connections to Rome, Milan and other European cities.
Malpensa Airport is about one hour away from the centre of Milan while Linate Airport is just 15–20 minutes by car. Fiumicino Airport is about one hour by car from the centre of Rome. Approximate one-way transportation fares are as follows:
• Taxi from Milan to Linate – € 15-25
• Taxi from Milan to Malpensa – € 80-100
• Taxi from Rome to Fiumicino – € 40-50
• Bus from Malpensa to Milan Central Station – € 5
• Train from Malpensa to Cadorna Northern Railway Station (Malpensa Express) – € 9
• Train from Rome to Fiumicino – € 10
General Information :
Trains are the cheapest means of getting around Italy. The official railway website is www.trenitalia.com. Prior to boarding a train, you must stamp your ticket in the yellow validation machines. Bus service also is available within and between cities in Italy. In general, car rental is expensive in Italy, as is gasoline.
