New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services

A “Certificate of Free Sale,” is a document issued by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services certifying that a company is in compliance with State and Federal Standards. The certificate may be required by importing foreign countries before food, drugs, cosmetics or medical devices regulated under Title 24 ofthe New Jersey Statutes can be imported. The certificate ensures that products are labeled in conformance with applicable food, drug, cosmetic or medical laws.
The information necessary to complete the Certificate of Free Sale application includes the following:
- Your registration and/or license number issued by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services.
- Your New Jersey facility’s most current date of inspection conducted by the Department of Health and Senior Services or the United States Food and Drug Administration, if your company is a drug company.
- The type of establishment, for example: food, drug, cosmetic manufacturer or distributor.
- Location of the licensed establishment where products are manufactured or distributed.

New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA)

Trade Show Assistance
The New Jersey Department of Agriculture offers an Export Development Program. The export development program annually supports New Jersey companies at domestic and international trade shows such as the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit, The Canadian Produce Marketing Association Convention and the Fancy Food Show in New York. Through participation in these and similar international expositions, New Jersey companies can gain direct access to potential domestic and foreign buyers.
AgExport Kits
In addition, FAS AgExport kits are available through the New Jersey Department ofAgriculture. The AgExport kit is designed to help new to export companies as well more experienced exporters. These kits include the AgExport magazine, a guide to available USDA export development services and order forms for foreign buyer lists, US supplier lists and the buyer alert program. Product Promotion Assistance
As an active member of Food Export USA-Northeast, each year the NJDA helps small and medium sized New Jersey companies apply for over $1.2 million in federal funds for export development activities through the USDA’s matched funds reimbursement Market Access Program (MAP). This program helps American firms establish foreign markets and increase current foreign market share. The MAP enables New Jersey companies to receive reimbursement for up to 50 percent of eligible promotional expenditures. Also through Food Export USA, the department coordinates the participation ofNew Jersey food and agricultural companies at international food expositions such as SIAL in Paris, France, ANUGA in Cologne Germany and FOODEX in Tokyo, Japan. New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (NJSBDC)

Whether you’re starting a new venture and need a business plan or expanding an existing business and exploring financing options, NJSBDC counselors can assist you. NJSBDC consulting is free, confidential, one-on-one consulting to help you with any aspect of small business management. Traditionally NJSBDC consulting has started with an in-person meeting at one of our eleven regional centers throughout the state. Now NJSBDC consulting can also be delivered via e-mail. NJSBDC specialty programs offer consulting in specific areas such as e-commerce, international trade, government procurement, manufacturing and technology commercialization.
